As far as paying your medical expenses, if you’re injured in an accident, it depends on a couple of different things. First, if it was an auto accident, there’s something called personal injury protection, which is insurance that’s required in Florida for you to have. So your own insurance company would pay up to $10,000 for medical expenses and for lost wages. If it’s not an auto accident, if you’re a passenger, it might apply. But if you don’t have that possibility, then you can use your own medical insurance. However, you should understand that they may seek reimbursement when the case is over of whatever amount that they pay. And the other option is to speak with the providers to whom you owe money, the medical providers, and request that they reduce the bills based on what amount of settlement you get or for any other reason, and they often do that.
And whether or not they’re willing to do that, you can also ask them to hold off on requiring you to pay until your case is settled. Just explain that you have a case that’s ongoing, that the case will be settled in the near future, and would they wait until that point. And usually, they will do that. And the money that they are paid for the medical bills would come from the settlement of the case
