Are there time limits to sue for injuries in an accident case?

Transcription

Yes. There is something called a statute of limitations. It does depend on the type of case that you have. There are, for some cases, a statute of limitations as short as one year. For others, it’s as much as five years. In usual accident cases, such as auto accidents, slip and fall cases, the time that you have, the time limit, the statute of limitations, is actually four years. What this means is that you have that amount of time to bring your lawsuit. If, for some reason, you don’t bring the lawsuit before that time expires, but only after, the judge would dismiss your case for missing the deadline. It is extremely important to contact an attorney about this issue, because you don’t want to file the lawsuit too late, and have your case dismissed.
