What is the statute of limitations to bring an accident lawsuit?

Transcription

Statute of limitations is essentially a deadline that you have to file a lawsuit. It depends on the type of case. It can be anywhere between one year on certain types of cases all the way up to five years on other types of cases. Usually in accident cases such as car accidents or other types of accidents, it’s a four year statute of limitations and that means that you have to have the lawsuit filed before that deadline expires. If you don’t and it’s filed after that, then the judge would dismiss your case for missing the deadline. It is very important to speak to an attorney about this to determine what your statute of limitations is. Is it two years, is it four years or another number of years, and to make sure that you don’t miss it.
